For me, book collecting is about finding the best, rarest books for the lowest price. Lets face it anyone with a huge pile of money can get whatever they like. Most things have a price. There is just no fun in cornering a market.
I am firstly a Hunter S. Thompson fan and secondly a collector. The mark of a true Thompson fan is not by the amount of books he / she has but their dedication to reading his work and understanding what he is all about and that goes for fans of any ilk.
There are sellers out there who charge a savage amount for their books, i have argued with them over their prices, shipping charges. But what annoys me no end is that they claim to be staunch Thompson fans and, as every fan of the Doc will tell you he would have despised these acts of the “Greedhead” book seller.
The few sellers i deal with now have been known to give books away for free to folks who are starting a collection or just can’t afford them. With a few of the books i have, the persons selling them had fallen on hard times and asked me if i wanted to buy their books, i agreed and gave them the option to buy them back for the same price when they got some cash in the bank.
There is no room in the Gonzo world for Greedheads.
I have a story about Hunter, collecting books, a rottweiler chewed first edition hardback copy of hells angels, and the guy who is on the top 15 most wanted Federal marshalls list.
wait, hold on. That is too much story for a comments section. I am going to throw a whole piece up on my site. Anyhow, my name is Kevin, but i go by Lono online. I am a HUGE fan of HST and stumbed upon your site. I expect to be here a lot.
thanks,
Lono
