Hunter S. Thompson Films Vodcast Update.
Wayne Ewing at Hunter S. Thompson Films has a recent post on his Vodcast page. Its titled Fear and Loathing in Hollywood. Wayne tells us about Hunter’s time on the set of the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas movie. It is great reading and has some great videos of Hunter and Co on the set. You can get it here. http://hunterthompsonfilms.com/vodcast/
While you are there check out The O’Farrell Theater, Chateau Marmont, The night we shot Keith Richards, The Gonzo Pilot, McGovern’s birthday, and Never call 911. All great and interesting HST related stuff.
Hunter S. Thompson Vs Johnny Depp (Revisit)
I have been otherwise detained for the last couple of weeks. I’m working on a interesting project, something totally different to what I’m used to. More of which I’ll go into at a later stage. Anyway on checking my site emails I see that I am getting a lot of requests to re-post this… Johnny Depp reading the letters / faxes he and Hunter exchanged during the build up to the filming of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. They are great clips and give a good, all be it small insight into their relationship. Even though Depp was a huge fan of Thompson’s long before they met, he didn’t take any guff when Hunter tried some of his bullying tactics.
Also I’m beginning work on a Rum Diary time line article, to (if we can get the timing right) coinside with the release of The Rum Diary Movie; which will be published in Beat Scene Magazine. meanwhile enjoy the videos…
A Couple Of HST Clips.
Just a couple of Clips. The first one is a not too happy Hell’s Angel letting Hunter know he’s not happy. The second is audio footage of Hunter and Allen Ginsberg being harassed by the fuzz.
Hell’s Angels Movie Adaptation.

“(*UPDATE: A week after this story posted, we were contacted by one of the producers of the “Hell’s Angels” movie, who happens to be the legal counsel for the “motorcycle club.” He told us that the movie Scott is directing for 20th Century Fox is actually being adapted from Hell’s Angels founding member Sonny Barger’s book “Hell’s Angels: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hell’s Angels Motorcycle Club.” The thing is that Scott made it clear that he has the rights for Thompson’s novel, so one assumes that he and screenwriter Stephen Gaghan are trying to create the fullest and most accurate representation of the group by including accounts both from Thompson and Barger, rather than favoring one side of the story over the other.)” From http://www.comingsoon.net
With The Rum Diary more or less at the end of it’s filming stage another of HST’s books is looking likely to be put to the screens.
In an interview with http://www.comingsoon.net Tony Scott (who made the new version of The Taking of Pelham 123) said he has plans to produce a movie of Hunter’s first book Hell’s Angels with Stephen Gaghan (right) already at work on the script. “My dance card is so full, I’m so lucky,” he told us before listing off some of the projects that are at the front of his mind. “I’ve got ‘The Warriors,’ I’ve got ‘Hell’s Angels’ – I’ve owned the Hunter Thompson book for 12 years and Steve Gaghan is writing the script right now. I own all these great titles. Another one called ‘Lucky Strike’ about guys who repro aircraft. ‘Potsdamer Platz,’ which is by the guys who wrote ‘Sexy Beast.’ Now with all these movies that are ready to go. They’re scripted, they’re budgeted, and now I’ve gotta make them before I die. I’m getting old.”
Gaghan has worked on such movies as Traffic, Havoc and Syriana, and is a good choice to take on what could be a tough one to adapt, but if done right could be a “Humdinger”
As for dates etc it’s way to0 early to start rubbing our hands together in anticipation but it will give fans of the Doc something to follow. I hate to take things for granted but maybe it ‘s safe to say that Johnny Depp will be lurking with intent to star in this too.
More news as it comes along.
A Few Rum Diary Books
Here’s part of my Rum Diary book collection (considering the movie being made and all that). It includes a couple of languages, various proofs (UK and US) and readers excerpts, 1st editions.

Alex Gibney’s Gonzo Coming to Ireland.

I was surprised to hear that “Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson” touches down here in Ireland from this Friday 19th December. It will be showing at the IFI in Temple Bar, Dublin. As for any other showings I am not too sure where else it will be. I have been reliably informed that only a possible maximum of 3 copies will be made available here due to the specialised nature of the documentary. I only know for sure that it is showing in the IFI Temple Bar. Here is a small trailer..
Some Reviews Of Alex Gibney’s Gonzo
Just a few reviews of Alex Gibney’s Gonzo, some of them are actually readable. And a trailer, which is not bad at all. With reference to the Hells Angels buying guide post a few days ago, at the beginning of this clip you will see Johnny Depp reading from Hells Angels, and it’s a book club edition. Just thought I’d mention that. (Yes I am a loser and have no life)
