Daniel J. Watkins is currently working with George Stranahan on a book about Tom Benton. He was kind enough to send me some pictures of all Hunter S. Thompson related Wallposters. See the slide show above. There is a lot more to follow soon about Daniel’s great project..

(I’m trying to work out a minor bug with the slideshow, it will be fixed soon but you can see all the pictures none the less.)

The Gonzo Portfolio

Well here is a chance to spend some cash you don’t have. It’s “The Gonzo Portfolio” by M+B Galleries in Los Angeles. It’s a limited edition of 100. It includes 12 photographs, 6 color prints and 6 black and white gelatin prints. The photographs are 12 inch x 12 inch, stamped and numbered by the estate of Hunter S. Thompson. Back in September we did a small piece on Bret Miller and his upcoming art work involving Hunter S. Thompson. He got in touch last night and sent me a picture of the finished article, that’s it below. Here is a brief outline on how he put this piece together..(In his own words)

“I often enjoy creating portraits of people who think outside of the box. Needless to say it was only a matter of time until I completed a piece of Hunter S. Thompson. This 12″ X 29″ piece is a stencil of Hunter over a collage of letters between Hunter and his long time friend and illustrator Ralph Steadman as well as a bunch of photos of Hunter. Materials for the collage were gathered from Ralph Steadman’s book “The Jokes Over”. Materials include stretched canvas, Liquitex Sealer, Modge Podge, Plutonium G Aerosol, and Make It Stone by Krylon for the edges.”

Bret Miller Art

JR recently pointed Bret Miller in my direction, and he mailed me yesterday explaining a little about his art work. He plans to do a piece involving Hunter S. Thompson. I know many artists have painted The Good Doctor over the years and most are the usual paint on canvas but Bret seems to be doing something different. He plans to do use books (I assume Hunter books) to create a collage, and then stencil an image over the collage. He hopes to be exhibiting his work on October 25th and plans to show his HST piece then. I will post the details of the show when I get them.
