Book Club Editions
This is a list of Hunter S. Thompson’s book club editions. As far as I know it was only these that were published as book club editions.
1. Hell’s Angels. The best way to recognise this is the red motorcycle on the front of the book (not the dust jacket) and the red stain / color on the top closed edge of the book. Some of the very early book club editions have a silver motorcycle on the front but no stain / color on the top closed edge. There will be no statement of a printed edition on the copyright page, no 1st edition etc. The dust jacket will have “Book Club Edition” on the front inside lower part of the flap.
2. Fear and Loathing Campaign Trail 72. The best way to tell if it’s a book club edition is on the inside, front dust jacket flap there will be no price. If there is no dust jacket the best way to tell is there will be no statement of a printed edition on the copyright page.
3. The Great Shark Hunt. As with the Campaign Trail 72, no price on the inside front of the dust jacket, and no statement of a printed edition on the copyright page.
4. Generation of Swine. Again, no price on the inside front flap of the dust jacket and no statement of a printed edition on the copyright page, also it will have “Book Club” or “BOMC” on the copyright page and there will be no number line.
5. Songs of the Doomed. No price on the inside front flap of the dust jacket, no statement of a printed edition or number line on the copyright page.
6. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas & Generation of Swine (in the one book) Published in 1991 for Book of the Month Club by Vintage Books (A division of Random House.) See picture below.
