For years, hstbooks.org has been a gathering place for wild words, Gonzo spirit, and the strange light that flickers between madness and meaning. It began as a tribute and guide to the works of Hunter S. Thompson. But like all living things, it has evolved.

The story now deepens.
The Spirit’s Janitor has joined the newsroom.

I’m still the same writer, thinker, and occasional troublemaker, but these days, the exploration has turned inward as well as outward. Alongside the Gonzo journalism and cultural riffs, you’ll now find reflections on therapy, spirituality, philosophy, and the poetic imagination. All of which are seen through the cracked lens of the human soul.

This next chapter blends Gonzo energy with Hillmanian depth psychology, the irreverent with the sacred, the absurd with the soulful. It’s therapy without the beige walls, philosophy without the ivory tower, and spirituality without the halos.

You’ll see more essays, reels, and reflections under The Spirit’s Janitor banner, stories that sweep through fear, healing, creativity, and the mad beauty of being human. The goal is simple: to re-story our lives, to make meaning where the world says there’s none, and to laugh along the way.

If you’ve followed hst_books on Instagram, you’ll notice the same spirit, just with more heart, more humour, and more soul dust.

Welcome to the hybrid zone: Gonzo meets Depth Psychology. Hunter meets Hillman. The newsroom meets the soul.

Stay tuned the mop’s out, the kettle’s on, and the next dispatch is already brewing.

    Dear St Marty,
    Wow!
But first to more important things.
How is Kathy faring? Please let us know. We think about you both often
and plan in our heads for a trip to Dublin and meeting you both at the Shelbourne Hotel
with a glass of champagne to celebrate J. P. Donleavy and Reginald Darcy Thormond Dancer Kildare.
Actually what is stopping us most is not the financials but our current states of health.
    All things are possible.
    So…..
    WOW!
    BIG WOW!!
Quite a task you have set yourself.
I was unaware of the work of James Hillman but when I saw the reference to soul, imagination and myth
my mind swung to Joseph Campbell the late mythologist and writer who has always been of interest to me
and was to my late great best mate Keith.
S0000…. I am looking forward to whatever it might be that your fertile mind is going to throw up
    at us.
Don’t keep us waiting to long.
Love and bestest to you all
    John

    Dearest John

Thanks for your regards! We are fighting the good fight.

I know Campbell’s work well. I draw upon his work a lot.

When you get here (health willing) we will hit The Ginger Man pub not far from the Shelbourne .

    Keep humping the Guinness

    St Marty.
